Reason why it has to 3.03 is becuase address are different in each version of course, and i never work with legacy versions, always the latest.

Like I said, I am running v1.08; I'll see if I can patch it up to 3.03 instead ... but on the other hand, within a few more
Aftermath missions, I am done with Red Alert (for this time around) and to be honest, the original smudges don't really bother me.
Does the fix correct the few smudges that have a dark blue pixel in it or so, contrasting with the white/grey of the rest of the graphic?

Aftermath? How can you be playing 1.08 if you got Aftermath? Aftermath is 2.00.

Yeah, that's what I am seeing as well, when I look at the main menu. However, before even loading up the game, I installed everything and I read
somewhere (forgot where, I was just looking around for the latest patches) that Aftermath brought the game up to 1.0.7 and that you needed the
latest patch, to bring it up to the final version of 1.0.8. I downloaded a file called "ra108usp.exe" and ran that one over my Red Alert after all the installing was done.
I didn't have any issues playing the game, though, except with the aforementioned Skype crashes, the smudge fix crashes and a few random crashes in between that seemed to have no real source.
After killing off Skype as long as I was playing and removing the smudge fix, it ran pretty flawless (except for the rare few random crashes).

I must admit that with your remark, I'm getting pretty confused on the patch numbers and all ;) .

COUNTERSTRIKE brings it up to 1.07. The 1.08 patch was made to make people without the expansion compatible with CS owners again. Then, Aftermath brought it up to 2.00, with the later 3.03 patch unifying the versions again.
Then, for some unknown reason, the 3.03 patch was retracted, but since there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it, it was leaked by beta testers.

Yes, the fix does exactly that. A few smudge images have dark pixels thatshouldn't be there, so I edited those SHPs to remove them.

I still wonder why the smudge fix won't work with v2.0...

just a thought, could the problem be with mix files and the order they are loaded/the priority of certian mix files?
I know at least one or two of the CnC game had this problem before they were patched up to a higher/highest version.

Hm, this loading priority thing was mentioned before, but TBH I don't know what it is and how it works. Could you please explain that in some detail?

you can set the allied countries as owners on vehicles and infantry.
so you can give germany other units then france or england.
russia and ukraine seem to be equivalent to soviets.
dont know if this works for all versions/patches but it worked for me.

Right, an update and a very important one at that.

I am getting absolutely no where with fixing this *GraphicBuffer or removing the vertical black box, there is also a problem with the mouse drawer.

There could be 3 things that account to this;

1) I think its outside my league now, surpassed my skill level.
2) Westwood coded this game in a very, very, very hardcoded manner, and everything needs on each other to work perfectly. This was there first redition of the C&c core engine in a Win32 environment.
3) I am totaly missing something out, for whatever reason.

So yea, not much more i can say on the matter at the moment...
